Ed Thomas
Creative Director

Ed Thomas is the founder and Executive Producer of Fiction Factory, where he has been instrumental in delivering over 200 hours of award-winning television. His work includes notable series and drama documentaries such as DAL YMA NAWR, SILENT VILLAGE, CWMGIEDD/COLOMBIA, GWAITH CARTREF, and the internationally renowned noir drama HINTERLAND/Y GWYLL, which continues to captivate audiences on global streaming platforms. Ed’s most recent work as Creator, Writer, and Director includes the dark comedy TREE ON A HILL / PREN AR Y BRYN (S4C, BBC Wales, All3Media International), now available on platforms like iPlayer and BritBox in the US, further expanding Fiction Factory’s reach to international viewers.

In addition to his success in television, Ed is an acclaimed playwright whose work has had a lasting impact on Wales’ Creative landscape – often exploring themes of identity and belonging. His works have been produced and performed across the UK and internationally, including the Donmar Warehouse, Tramway Glasgow, The Royal Court London, and festivals in Edinburgh and Melbourne. His plays, translated into more than 10 languages, include House of America, East from the Gantry, Song from a Forgotten City, Gas Station Angel, and On Bear Ridge, which was co-produced by National Theatre Wales and The Royal Court in 2019. His 35mm feature film House of America , directed by Marc Evans with music by John Cale from the Velvet Underground, opened at Sundance Film Festival in 1997, winning Best Film at Gothenburg Film Festival and Best Directorial Debut at Stockholm International Film Festival and BAFTA CYMRU.

Ed’s contributions to television, film, and theatre have had a lasting impact on Wales’s creative landscape – exploring universal themes of identity, belonging and human connection that play on the global stage. He is an Arts Foundation fellow and an honorary fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and University Wales Aberystwyth.

Ffion Williams
Series Producer

Ffion has worked as a Producer for Fiction Factory since 2016, producing 30 hours of S4C’s hit drama GWAITH CARTREF and co-creating, writing, and producing the six-part contemporary drama BREGUS, which aired on S4C in 2021.

She was also Series Producer for Fiction Factory’s dark comedy TREE ON A HILL / PREN AR Y BRYN (S4C, BBC Wales, and All3Media International). The series, which aired on S4C in November 2023 and BBC Wales in early 2024, received multiple award nominations and is now streaming on iPlayer and BritBox in the US.

Mark Andrew
Script Consultant & Development Story Producer

Mark Andrew has been a key collaborator at Fiction Factory since joining the team on HINTERLAND/Y GWYLL, working as a writer and story consultant and becoming a co-producer for its third season. Mark recently worked as a story consultant and co-created stories for later episodes on our epic dark comedy drama -TREE ON A HILL / PREN AR Y BRYN for BBC Wales, S4C, ALL3 Media.

Mark’s other TV & Film credits include co-creator and writer CRAITH/HIDDEN, another acclaimed S4C/BBC Wales series, where he was also executive producer. He was also an associate producer on the BAFTA Cymru-winning YR YMADAWIAD/THE PASSING and on BBC Films’ DENMARK, starring Rafe Spall.
 
Currently, Mark works with Fiction Factory as a story producer, leading on developing and adapting new content, drawing on his extensive experience in crafting compelling stories for both film and television.
