Fiction Factory’s “Pren ar Y Bryn” Nominated for Best Multichannel Programme at the Broadcast Awards 2025

Fiction Factory is thrilled to announce that their latest series, Pren ar Y Bryn for S4C has been nominated for Best Multichannel Programme at this year’s Broadcast Awards held on 5 February 2025 at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London.

Celebrating the best in British TV channels and content, the Broadcast Awards is the chance to reward and recognise the programmes and talent within the television industry.

Series creator and writer, Ed Thomas said:

This nomination follows an impressive awards season for Pren ar y Bryn, which received five nominations at this year’s BAFTA Cymru Awards and took home the award for Best Production Design for Gerwyn Lloyd, while lead actress Nia Roberts was nominated for Best Drama Performance at the RTS Cymru Awards 2024.

A big little story about time and change set in the wilds of a Welsh hinterland, Pren ar y Bryn follows the very ordinary and long married couple Margaret and Clive Lewis (Nia Roberts & Rhodri Meilir) who, after a series of events, find themselves in the middle of a mystery and on the wrong side of the law. 

For fans of gripping drama and immersive storytelling with a sense of the absurd, it’s an unforgettable journey into the heart of Wales, where mysteries abound, and the truth lies waiting to be unearthed.

Shot back-to-back in English and Welsh, the series is a Fiction Factory co-production with S4C, BBC Wales, and All3Media International, with support from Tinopolis and the Welsh Government via Creative Wales.

The series, originally aired on S4C and its English adaptation Tree on a Hill on BBC Wales, is now available worldwide on iPlayer in both languages. Tree on a Hill has also been acquired by Britbox in the US, which will take the series to international audiences. 

Pren ar y Bryn  made a strong impact at the 2024 BAFTA Cymru Awards, securing five nominations and taking home the coveted award for Production Design. The series earned nominations for Best Actor (Rhodri Meilir), Best Actress (Nia Roberts), Television Drama, Costume Design (Ffion Elinor), and Production Design (Gerwyn Lloyd). Gerwyn Lloyd’s outstanding work in production design clinched a win, marking a significant achievement for the show. Huge congratulations to Gerwyn and the entire Pren ar y Bryn team for their exceptional craftsmanship behind the scenes, bringing this beloved series to life with such precision and creativity. Congratulations also to all the nominees, who’s incredible work made Pren ar y Bryn / Tree on a Hill a success. 

Fiction Factory is thrilled to announce that BritBox has secured the rights to stream highly praised dark comedy-drama Tree on a Hill on its U.S. platform.

The global streaming service plans to introduce the English-language adaptation of the hit series, originally aired as Pren ar y Bryn on S4C, to American audiences. This addition will accompany the British drama Captivated, following an agreement with distributor All3Media International.

In a statement to Deadline, Jennifer Askin, SVP North America at All3Media International said;  “I’m thrilled our brilliant partners at BritBox are bringing Captivated and Tree on a Hill to audiences across the U.S. Both titles are from award-winning producers known for their enthralling storytelling and premium productions, and I have every confidence they will offer BritBox audiences superb entertainment.”

Series creator, writer & director, Ed Thomas welcomed the news;

This week, we were delighted to host the official launch of the album at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The event brought together the composers and director/writer Ed Thomas to share insights into the magical process and collaborative journey behind creating the series’ soundtrack.

The album, crafted by the accomplished composers Tic Ashfield, Sam Barnes, and John Hardy—working together under the collective name JOHNHARDYMUSIC—is available to stream on all platforms. For fans and collectors, exclusive vinyl records and CDs are also available for purchase.

This month, in collaboration with BAFTA Cymru, a preview of the first episode of Tree on a Hill was screened at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff before it aired on BBC Wales for the first time. After the screening, BAFTA Cymru Director, Rebecca Hardy hosted a  brilliant Q&A session with director, producer, and writer Ed Thomas, costume designer Ffion Elinor, production designer Gerwyn Lloyd, and makeup designer Kate Roberts.

As we watch shows on TV, it’s easy to overlook the immense effort and artistry happening behind the scenes. This event shone a spotlight on precisely that—the talented individuals and intricate craftsmanship that bring this series to life. It was a celebration of the dedication and creativity that often go unnoticed but are essential to making Tree on a Hill the captivating experience it is

One of the main highlights of the evening was undoubtedly the model world, which was brought into the venue for guests to admire up close. This immersive display allowed attendees to fully appreciate the incredible craftsmanship behind the production, adding a unique and memorable touch to the event.
