GADAEL YR UGEINFED GANRIF

1 x 48'

Music has the power to change the world.

This is the story of an underground generation; a generation with nothing to lose, a generation determined to do something rather than sit around idly. This is the story of a generation that changed Wales forever.

Based on the stage show by Gareth Potter, Gadael Yr Ugeinfed Ganrif describes the scene christened ‘Cool Cymru’ by the media in the mid-1990s, back to its post – punk roots of the late seventies. From the people that voted ‘No’ to devolution in ’79, to a country proud to be Welsh when the National Assembly opened twenty years later, this is the story of how a nation and a generation found its voice.

Through the eyes of the musicians, their fans, the fanzines and promoters, we explore how pop music changes lives and changes the world around us. From singles and cassettes, to CDs and MP3s. From gigs and sessions, the fighting and the glory, this documentary creates a poetic depiction of an era that still resonates with us today.
